LaHaye Named Super Region II Coach of the Year

GREENWOOD – R.C. LaHaye has been named the NWCA Super Region II Coach of the Year, the National Wrestling Coaches Association announced tonight ahead of the NCAA Super Region II Championship. It marks the fourth time in the last five seasons LaHaye has earned the region's top coaching honor.

LaHaye adds the regional accolade to his third Conference Carolinas Coach of the Year award in the last four seasons.

Under LaHaye's leadership, Lander University captured its fifth-straight conference title this season and secured its third consecutive outright Conference Carolinas West Division crown. The Bearcats finished the regular season with a 19-3 overall record and a perfect 10-0 mark in conference duals, extending the program's conference winning streak to 39 matches dating back to the 2021-22 season.

Lander also reached the semifinals of the NWCA National Duals for the second time in program history, earning a top-four finish at the prestigious event. The Bearcats picked up multiple ranked wins throughout the season and rose as high as No. 6 in the NWCA national poll, finishing the year ranked inside the top 15 nationally.

LaHaye guided seven wrestlers to All-Conference honors this season, including Conference Carolinas Wrestler of the Year David Hunsberger. Lander wrestlers combined for a 74-15 record in conference matches and a 151-51 mark in dual competition during the regular season.

LaHaye and the Bearcats now turn their focus to postseason competition as they host the NCAA Super Region II Championship inside Horne Arena, where Lander will look to continue its dominance on the regional stage.
