ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Lander women's soccer team evened its Peach Belt Conference quarterfinal match against Flagler at 1 during the first half, but two second-half goals by the Saints gave them a 3-1 win on Saturday afternoon at Saints Field.
Lander (7-4-5) doubled up Flagler (7-5-5) in shots, 16-8, while putting five on target.
Angele Hills took five shots and one of hers was the equalizer in the 33rd minute following a penalty kick score for Flagler in the eighth minute. Hills moved up the right wing and beat the keeper low and to the right.
The Bearcats came out looking to strike quickly in the second half.
Peyton Bibbee chipped a shot into the box in the 49th minute that was headed out by a Saints defender right before it reached the goal-line.
Rylee King missed the net narrowly a minute later, and Hills hit the crossbar in the 57th minute.
Kylie Wilson had her shot saved in the 59th minute while King had another shot stopped nine minutes later. All the while, Flagler had only two shots in the second half to that point – neither of which was on target.
But in the 74th minute, the Saints were able to end the game's 41-minute scoreless spell on a header in the box before adding a breakaway goal six minutes later.
