GREENWOOD – The Lander Men's Soccer team earned a 1-1 draw for the second time in three days at Van Taylor Stadium on a sunny Sunday afternoon against Rollins.
Giacomo Sartori got the scoring underway in the 20th minute as he headed in a well-placed
Christian Hatley corner kick from the left side of the pitch to stake the Bearcats to a one-goal lead.
Lander (0-0-2) put plenty of pressure on Rollins (1-0-1) offensively during the opening 45 minutes with nine shots compared to a single Tars shot. The Bearcats carried their 1-0 lead into halftime.
Rollins evened the score at one apiece in the 68th minute.
The Bearcats, though, kept pushing the tempo on offense and
Mika Lankhof nearly gave them the lead in the 81st minute when his free-kick hit the crossbar.
Orran Mushet had a great scoring chance in the 83rd minute after Hatley found him with separation but the Rollins keeper fended his shot off with a kick-save.
Soon after in the 85th minute,
Carson Graves stole a Rollins pass and chipped it ahead to a streaking Sartori who had a clean look at his second goal of the day in the box – his left-footed shot was again stopped by the sturdy Rollins keeper.
Lander finished the game with a 19-7 advantage in shots that included a 6-2 edge in shots on goal.
The Bearcats have six days between games before returning to the pitch against current-No.21 Auburn-Montgomery on Saturday, Sep. 13. Kick-off is at 7 p.m. in Alabama.
