Lander Athletics Inducts 186 in Second Chi Alpha Sigma Class

GREENWOOD – The Lander Athletic Department inducted 186 student-athletes into Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athlete Honor Society, at the start of the academic year. The 186 inductees were the second-most in the nation across all levels of four-year collegiate athletics (NCAA, NAIA, NCCAA and USCAA), trailing only Ohio State, which inducted 218.

"We are thrilled to be a member of Chi Alpha Sigma, the first and only organization established to honor collegiate student-athletes who excel both on and off the field of competition," said Deputy Athletic Director/SWA and Chi Alpha Sigma Chapter Advisor Dawn Turner. "We are so pleased that our more than 800 student-athletes continue to shine academically with our overall department GPA over 3.1. This outstanding effort has put Lander University and Bearcat Athletics in very impressive company with regard to our 2024-25 class of inductees."

In total, a record 17,179 athletes were inducted nationwide, setting a new single-year mark by nearly 5,500.

To qualify for induction, a student-athlete must have achieved junior academic standing or higher after their fifth full-time semester, hold a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, and have earned a varsity letter in their sport.

"We are proud of our student-athletes for their accomplishments both on and off the field," said Athletics Director Brian Reese. "The number of inductees we have had into Chi Alpha Sigma in just two years, in addition to the success we've had on the field, is a testament to the work ethic of our student-athletes and the dedication of our coaches and support staff to put them in the best position to succeed."
