Grant Sherrod Named ABCA All-American

GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the first time since 2016, the Lander baseball program can claim an All-American, as redshirt senior Grant Sherrod was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-America Second Team on Friday afternoon. Earlier last week, Sherrod also received Honorable Mention All-America honors from the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA).

Sherrod becomes the first Bearcat to earn All-America honors since Colby Lusignan and Zach Daly accomplished the feat in 2016. He is also the first Lander player since the trio of Erik Lunde, Connor Lewis, and Patrick Grady in 2014 to be selected to the ABCA All-America team.

The Peach Belt Conference batting champion, Sherrod capped off his final collegiate season with a .408 average. He led Lander in nearly every offensive category, including 97 hits, 19 doubles, 11 home runs, and 76 RBIs. He posted a .626 slugging percentage and a .496 on-base percentage—both among the top marks in the Southeast Region.

Nationally, Sherrod ranked second in NCAA Division II in total hits, ninth in hits per game (1.70), 23rd in RBIs per game (1.33), and 38th in batting average. The Sumner, Wash., native was also named the NCBWA Southeast Region Player of the Week on March 10.

Sherrod now awaits potential recognition from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), which will release its All-America teams on Tuesday. If selected, he would become just the fourth consensus All-American in Lander program history.
