Lander to Host PBC Baseball Championship Series This Week

GREENWOOD, S.C. – After winning their bracket with a perfect 3-0 record, the Lander baseball team is set to host the Peach Belt Conference Championship Series this Thursday and Friday, May 8–9, at Dolny Stadium.

The second-seeded Bearcats will face fourth-seeded Columbus State for the league title. The Cougars advanced in dramatic fashion, scoring 12 runs in the top of the ninth inning to defeat top-seeded North Georgia in the deciding game of the Dahlonega bracket.

The championship series will be played in a best-of-three format. Game 1 is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Thursday, followed by Game 2 on Friday at 1 p.m. If a third game is necessary, it will be played approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game 2.

Lander and Columbus State have met once before in the PBC Championship Game/Series—back in 2016, when the Cougars claimed a 9-4 win in Florence, S.C. The programs are also familiar postseason foes at Dolny Stadium. In 2014, the Bearcats defeated the Cougars 5-2 in the NCAA Southeast Region championship game, which ended at approximately 1:30 a.m.

As with the first round last weekend, tickets for the PBC Championship Series must be purchased online at landerbearcats.com/pbctix. A clear bag policy will be in effect throughout the tournament.
