Historic Season Comes to an End in Salisbury Regional Semifinal

SALISBURY, N.C. – The Lander baseball team's memorable 2025 campaign came to a close Saturday afternoon as the Bearcats fell 5-2 to North Greenville in the NCAA Southeast Regional semifinal at Newman Park. North Greenville (45-14) advanced to the regional final later in the evening but fell to top-seeded Catawba, 8-5.

As they did in every game of the regional, Lander struck first. Connor Droze doubled to right field with two outs in the top of the first inning to score Grant Sherrod and give the Bearcats a 1-0 lead. Droze would finish the day 2-for-4 with both of Lander's RBIs, including a solo home run in the sixth inning that brought Lander within one.

North Greenville answered with three runs in the bottom of the third, highlighted by an RBI double and a two-run homer.

Lander starter Luke Johnson allowed three runs over 4.2 innings, striking out three and walking three while scattering four hits. Kurt Rogers was strong in relief once again, holding the Trailblazers scoreless over 2.0 innings and striking out two.

The Trailblazers tacked on a two-run home run in the eighth inning to extend their lead to 5-2. 

The Bearcats managed just four hits on the day—two from Droze, and one each from Adam Love and Cooper Backman. 

Lander finishes the season at 43-15, with the 43 victories marking the third-most in program history. The Bearcats claimed their first Peach Belt Conference Tournament title in 11 years, a share of the PBC regular season title, and earned their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2016.
