Lander Cruises Past USC Sumter with Shutout Victory

GREENWOOD - Lander University put on a commanding performance at the Joe Cabri Tennis Center, shutting out USC Sumter 7-0 in both singles and doubles. The Bearcats improved to 3-1 on the season with the victory, while the Fire Ants fell to 1-3.

Doubles Recap

Doubles action set the tone for the day, with Lander overwhelming USC Sumter across all three courts. At the No. 1 spot, Mille Elsborg and Maria Jose Zarza dismantled Maeva Chambon and Pawarapa Thaimuangphol, earning a quick 6-1 victory. 

Over on court two, Bailee Martin and Evelyn Altmaier continued Lander's momentum, taking down Mary Catherine Cameron and Pawarada Thaimuangphol by a score of 6-2. At the No. 3 position, Fe Batoon and Ella Sowman sealed the doubles sweep with a dominant 6-1 win over Laura Kotala and Isabella Roa.

Singles Recap

With the doubles point secured, Lander carried its momentum into singles play, where they continued to dominate. Maria Jose Zarza led the way at No. 1 singles, defeating Maeva Chambon 6-1, 6-3 in a strong performance to remain undefeated on the season. 

Hannah Panchal followed at No. 2, rolling past Pawarada Thaimuangphol 6-2, 6-1. Bailee Martin made quick work of Pawarapa Thaimuangphol at the third singles position, winning 6-2, 6-0. 

Meanwhile, Ashtyn Cason completely shut out Laura Kotala at No. 4 singles, cruising to a flawless 6-0, 6-0 victory. Micaela Pallete added to Lander's success with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Mary Catherine Cameron at No. 5, and Becca Latty closed out the match at No. 6 with a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Isabella Roa.

UP NEXT 
The Bearcats will return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 18, in a road match against Mars Hill. Doubles will begin at 2:00 p.m. in Mars Hill, N.C.
