GREENWOOD – For the second consecutive season, the Lander women's soccer team will be competing in the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Tournament after compiling a 12-3-2 record across the regular season and Peach Belt Conference Tournament.
Lander received an at-large bid and is the No. 5 seed in the Southeast Region. They will square off with No. 4 seed Francis Marion in the first round at noon on Friday, Nov. 21 at Frock Field in Salisbury, North Carolina.
The Patriots finished the regular season with a 15-1 record and won the Conference Carolinas East Division before falling to Belmont Abbey in the tournament championship game on Sunday by a 2-1 final. They now sit at 17-2 headed into this match with their other loss coming to UNC Pembroke on Oct. 28.
The Bearcats, who were the No. 2 seed in the PBC Tournament, advanced to the semifinal round after beating No. 7 seed USC Beaufort 1-0 in the quarterfinals. They fell to No. 3 seed and eventual champion Columbus State 2-1 last Wednesday in the semis.
The Blue and Gold captured the program's first NCAA Tournament win last year in thrilling double OT fashion against Lenoir-Rhyne as a seven seed with a 3-2 victory in Hickory.
