Lander picks up road win over Middle Georgia, 3-1

COCHRAN, Ga. – In Georgia for the second time in as many games on Wednesday night, the Lander men's soccer team picked up three Peach Belt points after beating Middle Georgia by a 3-1 final at Nesmith Field.

Ryosuke Tanaka, Josh Murray and Giacomo Sartori scored three unanswered goals to improve the Bearcats' record to 5-2-6, 4-2-3 PBC.

After Christian Hatley almost headed in a 43rd-minute corner-kick, he persisted on the play and sent a cross back in that Tanaka himself headed in to even the score at 1 before halftime.

Hatley also tallied the assist on Murray's goal in the 68th minute. His low-angle corner-kick was headed in by his fellow Englishman to the bottom-left pocket of the net. That brought Hatley's totals to 10 assists and 20 points, both of which lead the conference.

Callum Gregory started the next goal-scoring chance for the Bearcats in the 76th minute. His perfectly-placed pass met Carson Graves in the penalty box, and he shuffled it back to
Sartori who went top-shelf to put the game out of reach.

The Bearcats had 20 shots altogether to the Knights' 14. They also doubled up MGA with 10 shots on target, compared to five.

Making his first Lander start in net – and picking up the win – was James Docherty. He stopped four shots in 90 minutes.

Lander will host its Senior Day this Saturday, Oct. 25 against Clayton State. A ceremony will precede the game slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
