AMERICUS, Ga. – Two first-half goals were what the Lander men's soccer team needed to get back in the win column while picking up three Peach Belt points in a 2-1 road match on Saturday evening against Georgia Southwestern.
Giacomo Sartori corralled a long pass from
Callum Stokes in the 13th minute, made a move in the box and deposited one into the bottom left corner of the net for a 1-0 lead.
It gave Sartori a goal in consecutive games while upping his season total to five, which is tied for the team-lead with
Christian Hatley. Stokes tallied his first assist of the season on the play.
Though the Hurricanes tied it at one apiece 13 minutes later, Lander (4-2-6, 3-2-3 PBC) got it right back in the 36th minute on a long and quirky shot that was eventually ruled a Bearcat team goal.
Stokes almost tacked on a third score in the 83rd minute but it was stopped by the diving Hurricanes (4-6-2, 3-5-1 PBC) keeper.
In all, GSW had 16 shots to Lander's eight and both teams put three on goal.
The Bearcats will remain on the road this Wednesday, Oct. 22 versus Middle Georgia. Lander blanked the Knights 5-0 back on Sep. 20. Kick-off for this game is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Nesmith Field.
