GREENWOOD – Welcoming Peach Belt Conference foe Flagler to town for their second conference game of the season, the Lander men's soccer team took a 3-2 defeat on Wednesday afternoon at Van Taylor Stadium.
Christian Hatley got things going in a hurry for Lander (1-3-2, 1-1-0 PBC) as he put home a shot from about 25 yards out on the right side just 1:12 into the game. The goal was assisted by senior
Jaime Escos Castillo.
The game then saw a 36-minute scoring drought before Flagler (5-0-1, 2-0-0 PBC) evened it up at 1. Just prior to halftime, the Saints gained a 2-1 lead on a successful penalty kick opportunity.
Both teams shored up on defense in the second half until
Callum Stokes scored the equalizer with only 5:41 left in the match. The Saints, though, headed one in with a little over a minute remaining to capture the win.
Lander hits the road for a conference date with Georgia Southwestern in Americus on Saturday at 7 p.m.
