ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Visiting a Peach Belt Conference foe for the first time this season, the Lander women's soccer team earned a 2-2 draw – and thus one point in the conference standings – with Flagler on Saturday afternoon at Saints Field.
Offense was aplenty in this game as Lander (4-0-2, 0-0-1 PBC) registered 15 shots to Flagler's (2-0-2, 0-0-1 PBC) 12. Nine of those were on net for the Bearcats, and seven for the Saints.
Flagler broke the ice in the third minute of the game; it was the first goal Lander has allowed this season to end an incredible stretch spanning 452 minutes.
Senior
Emma Sexton soon after answered the call off a feed from fellow senior
Mia Piazza to even things at 1 apiece 11 minutes later. Flagler went back ahead by a goal in the 33rd minute by way of a penalty kick and carried that lead into halftime.
Angele Hills found the back of the net in the 57th minute, rebounding after having a shot saved five minutes prior, to make it a 2-2 stalemate. The goal – which was assisted by
Alarie Hodge – was Hills' team-best fourth on the year.
Romie Llewellyn (59th minute) and Sexton (77th minute) had the final two shots on goal for the Bearcats but were unable to break the tie.
Lander returns home for a Wednesday (Sept. 25) evening contest with South Atlantic Conference-member Anderson (S.C.). Kickoff at
Van Taylor Stadium is scheduled for 5:00.
