MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Competing in their third consecutive game away from home to start the campaign, the Lander men's soccer team earned a 1-1 draw with host Montevallo on Saturday night at Varsity Field.

Callum Stokes struck first for Lander (0-2-1) 8:21 into the game with his first collegiate goal for an early 1-0 lead. The Bearcats peppered the home keeper with three more shots on net over the final 36 minutes of the opening half but were unable to add another score.
Montevallo (2-0-2) had its answer in the 50th minute to tie the game at 1 apiece.
Zach Meyer's shot with 4:55 remaining was the Bearcats' final scoring chance, though it didn't get past the Falcon goalie.
Juan Rodriguez had a sterling effort in net for Lander with six saves on seven shots faced.
The Bearcats come back to Greenwood for their home opener on Wednesday night (Sept. 18). They'll host North Georgia at 7:30 at Van Taylor Stadium.
