Americus, Ga. - 18th-ranked Lander outscored Georgia Southwestern 46-40 in the second half to take a 73-70 win over the Hurricanes Saturday night.
The Hurricanes would build a nine-point lead with five minutes left in the first half. A layup by Phillip Burwell would spark a 9-3 run to end the half and cut the deficit to 30-27.
Trailing 37-29 early in the second half, the Bearcats would cut the Hurricane lead to two points with two baskets by Inady Legiste and one by Tommy Moore. Trailing 46-44, Noah Dunn hit a jumper to tie the game up, and on the next Lander possession, he hit two free throws to give the Bearcats the lead. The teams would continue to exchange the lead. With Georgia Southwestern leading 64-63, Legise made a layup to put the Bearcats up one. Tommy Moore then drained a three-point basket to make it 68-65, and they never looked back as they held on for the win.
Inady Legiste led all players with 21 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Phillip Burwell and Noah Dunn each scored 11 points, while Noah Dunn finished with 10 points.
