Dahlonega, Ga. - In a top-15 matchup for possession of first place in the Peach Belt, Jacob Cooper drained a three-pointer with six seconds left in the game to give Lander the 82-80 win over North Georgia.
The Bearcats would get off to a hot start in the first half, building a 13-point lead with 9 minutes to go in the half. The Nighthawks would slowly chip away and tie the game up at 32 with 3:57 remaining in the period. A three-point basket by Noah Dunn gave Lander the lead again, but North Georgia battled back again and took a 40-38 lead with one minute remaining. Cooper would hit a layup with less than 30 seconds remaining to tie the game at 40 heading into the half.
The second half saw eight lead changes in the first ten minutes of the second half. Back-to=back layups by Cooper gave Lander a 69-65 lead with 8:16 remaining. The Nighthawks would work their way back and take a 78-77 lead with just over a minute left. Cooper would hit another layup with 36 seconds left to give the Bearcats the lead, but North Georgia hit two free throws to regain it. Copper then hit the biggest three-pointer of the season to put Lander up two, and the Bearcats would hold on for the win and the series victory over the Nighthawks.
Cooper led all players with 19 points on 7-12 shooting and had three assists. Inady Legiste finished with 14 points and seven assists. Noah Dunn was 4-6 from three-point land to finish with 12 points, and Nigel Colvin added 10 points.
