Dominant Third Quarter Boosts Lander to a 75-62 Win Over Erskine

Due West, S.C. - The Lander Bearcats displayed their depth in a decisive 75-62 victory over the Erskine Flying Fleet on Tuesday, Dec. 3. Playing on the road, the Bearcats leaned on a powerful third-quarter performance to improve their record to 4-2 overall.

"I feel like we're scratching the surface on how good we can be," stated Head Coach Nicole "Colie" Shelwick. "Today, our depth played a key role in our game; 34 points off the bench is a stat we're going to continue to build off of. We had ten people in the scoring category. It's a great win before we head into conference play."

The first quarter was tightly contested, with Lander edging ahead 18-16. Despite shooting only 29.4 percent from the field, the Bearcats managed to stay ahead by capitalizing on second-chance opportunities and converting key free throws.

Lander's shooting improved to 42.1 percent in the second quarter, extending its lead to 37-32 by halftime. Erskine stayed within striking distance by shooting 41.7 percent from the floor.

The third quarter proved decisive, as Lander erupted for a 29-13 scoring advantage. Shooting an impressive 50 percent from the field and 90.9 percent from the free-throw line, the Bearcats built a commanding lead. Erskine struggled to keep pace, falling behind by a significant margin.

Erskine attempted a rally in the final quarter, outscoring Lander 17-9. The Bearcats' shooting cooled to 36.4 percent. Despite their lower efficiency in the final frame, the Bearcat's earlier dominance ensured the victory.

Lander's collective effort was a highlight of the game. Courtney Nesbitt was the engine for the Bearcats, delivering a well-rounded performance with 14 points and nine rebounds.

Donee' Frazier made a massive impact off the bench, recording a double-double with 10 points and ten rebounds. Her physical presence in the paint was instrumental, as she cleaned up the boards and converted on 8-for-12 free throws.

Shcira Fowles continued to be a source for the Bearcats, adding 13 points and connecting on two three-pointers that gave Lander momentum in the first half. She also added one block and two steals towards the win.

Trinity Thomas rounded out the Bearcats' double-digit scorers with 11 points and six rebounds, while Ryan Elbert contributed a solid performance with nine points and four rebounds.

The Bearcats delivered a well-rounded performance, shooting 40 percent (26-for-65) from the field and 63.3 percent (19-for-30) from the free-throw line. Their defense proved relentless, forcing 23 turnovers, while the bench added a crucial boost with 34 points.
