Bearcats Secure First Road Win of the Season with Dominant Fourth Quarter

TIGERVILLE, S.C. - In their first road contest of the season, the Lander University women's basketball team delivered a decisive 63-51 victory over the North Greenville Trailblazers. The win improves Lander's record to 3-1, while North Greenville continues to search for their first win at 0-5.

The Bearcats established early control with a strong 47.1 percent shooting performance in the first quarter, building a 16-9 lead. Despite a determined push by the Crusaders in the second and third quarters, where they outscored the Bearcats 28-24, Lander delivered an efficient 60 percent shooting effort in the decisive fourth quarter, outscoring North Greenville 23-14 to seal the win.

Shcira Fowles led the charge for Lander, recording her second double-double of the season with 13 points and 17 rebounds, including 15 on the defensive end. Trinity Thomas added 12 points, shooting 40 percent from beyond the arc, and collected four rebounds. Aliyah Bello provided a crucial spark off the bench, scoring 11 points and shooting 4-for-8 from the field in the second half.

Lander's defense played a pivotal role, forcing 18 turnovers that translated into 15 points. The Bearcats dominated the boards, out-rebounding North Greenville 42-19, with 28.6 percent of those rebounds coming on the offensive end. Their 12 offensive boards led to 16 second-chance points, showcasing the ability to capitalize on opportunities and control the game's tempo. 

Lander shot an efficient 45.3 percent (24-of-53) from the field and converted 62.5 percent (10-of-16) of their free throw attempts.

The Bearcats will hit the road again on Saturday, Nov. 23, for a matchup against Auburn-Montgomery University, with tip-off scheduled for 3 p.m.
