AMERICUS, Ga. – The Lander women's soccer team picked up a Peach Belt point after drawing 1 apiece with Georgia Southwestern on Saturday evening at Hurricane Field in the Bearcats' third road game in the last 10 days.
Lander moves to 7-1-4 overall and 2-1-3 in conference with the result, while the Hurricanes are now 6-6-1 and 4-3-1.
The Bearcats controlled the game in all facets to the tune of an 18-2 advantage in shots – with a 9-2 margin in shots on goal. Fortunately for the Blue and Gold,
Maren White's penalty kick in the 54th minute was a success to the bottom left corner of the net; the PK was necessitated by a Hurricane handball in the penalty area.
White nearly scored again in the 77th minute but her shot hit the bottom left post.
Emma Sexton also almost gave the Bearcats a 2-1 lead in traffic with 11 minutes to play if not for the GSW keeper making a leaping save to punch it over the net. Neither team could find an advantage the remainder of the way.
Lander returns to the friendly confines of
Van Taylor Stadium for a Wednesday night matchup against Columbus State on Oct. 30. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00.
