GREENWOOD - A goal by Emma Sexton with less than four minutes left in the first half broke a scoreless tie, and Sexton would add two more second-half goals as Lander defeated Limestone 3-0 Sunday afternoon.
The Bearcats out shot the Saints 9-3 in the first half but could not find the back of the net until Sexton put them on the board on an assist by Mary Moosbrugger in the 42nd minute. The goal sparked the Lander attack in the second half, as they out shot Limestone 15-2, controlling the ball on the Saint's side of the field. Emma would chip the ball over the keeper in the 53rd minute to get her second goal and give Lander some insurance. In the 79th minute, Sexton clipped a cross from Romie Llewellyn with the back of her heel to find the back of the net to complete the hat trick.
Leah Hayes Coen recorded her second-straight shutout in goal, making two saves.
