Lander baseball concludes season with 11-5 loss to North Georgia

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - The Lander baseball team concluded its season in the PBC Tournament with an 11-5 to North Georgia on Saturday on the campus of Young Harris.

Lander finishes the season with an overall record of 25-27 while North Georgia advances to 29-23 overall.

Lander struck first with two runs coming around in the top of the first.

Oliver Zohn began the inning with a walk and reached third on a double from Will McClellan down the right-field line. A ground out from Connor Droze and a SAC fly from Lucas Martino would be enough to score Zohn and McClellan to put Lander up 2-0 after the top of the first.

North Georgia added a run in the bottom of the inning on a passed ball.

After singles from Ethan Wilder, Matthew Burgess and Gary Garrett in the top of the second; Zohn would ground out to second to score Wilder to make it 3-1 Lander.

The Nighthawks would respond for the second consecutive inning as a solo shot to left field gave North Georgia its second run of the game.

North Georgia would take the lead on a single and error that saw two runs come around to put UNG up 4-3.

Two more runs would come around as the Nighthawks would take a 6-3 lead.

North Georgia would increase its lead to 7-3 with a run scoring in the fourth.

The Nighthawks would add four more runs until Lander scored in the eighth inning where a pair of walks brought in runs

Luke Johnson got the start and loss for Lander. Johnson went three innings where he allowed six runs, five earned, on five hits while walking three and striking out two.

Bennett Nance and Bennett Sloper both saw appearances in relief.
