Men's lacrosse handles Montevallo on the road - Wins 14-9 for second straight conference win

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Lander men's lacrosse team added another conference victory to its resume as it took down the Montevallo Falcons 14-9 on the road Saturday afternoon.

Lander improves to 8-3 overall and 2-0 in the PBC while Montevallo falls to 7-5 overall and 0-2 in the PBC.

Kyle DeCrispino led the Bearcats with five goals and five points. DeCrispino put 6-of-7 shots on goal and added a ground ball to his impressive day. Adam Mather had a team-high three assists and added a goal, four points and one caused turnover. Nolan Oakey led the Bearcats with eight ground balls and three caused turnovers along with adding two goals and an assist.

Nicholas Paige recorded his sixth win of the season after recording 13 saves against the Falcons.

The Bearcats have won their first two conference games of the season and have gone 4-1 in their last five.

Although allowing Montevallo to score the opening goal, Lander would soon tie the game at 1-1 on a strike from Noah Longest with 5:20 left in the first. Caedmon Ferrell would give the Blue and Gold a 2-1 lead off a pass from Mather with 4:26 left before the Falcons got the contest even at 2-2 with 3:08. A man-up goal from Jeremy Wudrick and a goal from Decrispino put Lander ahead 4-2 at the end of the first quarter.

Both sides would have no issue scoring in the second quarter, as there would be nine combined goals between Lander and Montevallo.

The Falcons were once again first to strike as the home side made it a 4-3 contest. Lander would proceed to go on to score four consecutive goals, with Decrispino, Mather, Tyler Krajli and Brandon Perkins adding to the goal total to give Lander an 8-3 lead. Montevallo would respond with three of the final four goals scored. DeCrispino broke up the Falcons' goal stretch off a pass from Sean Reilly.

Lander would take a 9-6 edge into the half.

The Bearcats would start to distance themselves from the Falcons in the second half.

Lander would start with four goals coming in the third quarter.

For the third straight quarter, Montevallo would be the first to strike.

DeCrispino would counter with his fourth goal of the day to give Lander a 10-7 lead with 11:48 left in the third.

The Falcons would score once more before Lander would close the quarter out with three unanswered goals. DeCrispino would notch his fifth goal of the game off a pass from Carter Wilcox while Nolan Oakey would score a pair of goals. Lander would lead 13-8 heading into the final quarter.

The fourth quarter was quiet compared to the other three with each team scoring just once.

Lander would be first to score in the fourth as Quinn Ingalls scored on a pass from Perkins with 2:39 remaining while Montevallo would sneak a goal by with 51 seconds left in the game.

The Bearcats return to Van Taylor Stadium on Saturday, April 8 to host Young Harris for their next opponent.
