GREENWOOD - Coming off his nomination for the NWCA Div. II National Rookie of The Year, David Hunsberger has been recently named the Div. II Freshman of The Year by The Open Mat.

Hunsberger went 32-5 this past season with the Bearcats, which puts him third in program history for the most wins in a single season. The South Carolina native went undefeated at the Battle at the Citadel in the first month of the season. After going 2-2 at the Midwest Classic, Hunsberger posted a 12-0 record to close the regular season.

Hunsbergers was named an All-American at the 2023 Div. II National Championships after finishing fourth, good for the best finish among freshmen. He is also a Super Region II champion at 165 and was named the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Freshman of The Year. Hunsberger was also an All-SACC First Team nomination at 165.
