HARROGATE, Tenn. - The Lander Women's Lacrosse team overcame a sloppy first half on Saturday afternoon and scored seven goals in the second half to pull away from the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters, 11-7.
Brooke Kelly led the way with four goals while also adding three assists. Between the posts
Kara Krusbe made 12 saves.
Emmy Peterson would find
Kasey Bronco for the Bearcats first goal of the season just over 90 seconds in. However, Lincoln Memorial would score the next two goals to take a 2-1 lead. The teams would alternate goals, with Lander's coming from
Ella Benson, and LMU would take a 3-2 lead into the second quarter.
Both teams would score two goals in the second quarter with Kelly and
Alyssa Suchan finding the back of the cage for the Bearcats. However, the Bearcats would commit seven turnovers, with a few of them coming in the offensive end, to allow the Railsplitters to take a 6-5 lead into halftime.
After the break, Lander would come out on fire as they would outscore LMU 4-0 in the third quarter.
Amelia McCauley would find the tying goal less than a minute in before Suchan would add two more goals to give the Bearcats a 7-5 lead and
Mickey Burnett would cap the scoring barrage with her first goal of the season and Lander led 8-5 going into the final quarter of action.
Brooke Kelly would score two straight goals off assists from Peterson and Bronco to make it five straight goals for Lander to make it 10-5.
Lincoln Memorial would score their first goal of the half with under five to go but Kelly would cap her four goal day with under two minutes to play to give Lander an 11-6 lead.
Lincoln Memorial would add a goal right before the horn but it was too little too late.
The Bearcats open their home slate next Saturday as they host Newberry at 1 PM for their Breast Cancer Awareness Game.
