Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Nighthawks Down Bearcats, 75-42

DAHLONEGA, Ga. - The Lander Women's Basketball team held tough for one quarter but the North Georgia Nighthawks used a hot shooting second quarter and never looked back as they pulled away for a 75-42 win on Saturday afternoon at the UNG Convocation Center.

Tanyia Gordon led the way with 14 points while Kayla Sanders and Tyasia Freeman each added four rebounds.

Kayla Massop came two assists short of a triple-double for the Nighthawks as she had 15 points and 15 rebounds.

Lander would start out the game on fire shooting 62% from the field in the first quarter and a Kayla Sanders layup would give the Bearcats their only lead of the game at 8-7 but a pair of three-pointers by North Georgia would put the hosts in front. The Nighthawks would go up by as much as four but a Freeman free throw would get the lead back down to one possession heading into the second quarter at 16-13.

In the second quarter, a Tanyia Gordon jumper would cut the lead down to one at 23-22 but after that it was all Nighthawks as they would use a 17-4 run aided by several offensive rebounds and three-pointers to create some separation and head to the halftime break up 40-26.

Lander would only make four shots from the floor in total in the second half compared to North Georgia's 14 and the Nighthawks would continue to pull away with a 22-5 run to end the third quarter and into the fourth quarter to put Lander well out of reach.

The Bearcats are back at home on Wednesday as they host the Georgia College and State University Bobcats at 5:30 PM inside Horne Arena.
