WINGATE, N.C. - Augusta defeated Lander 3-2 to eliminate the Bearcats in the semifinals of the Southeast Regional Saturday night.
Augusta came out of the gate to win the first set 25-15. The two teams would trade points for the first part of the second set. With the Jaguars leading 10-9, the Bearcats would tie the score on a kill by Olivia Dow. After back-to-back attack errors by Augusta, Lander would get a block by Lauren Dow and Blondie Penaflor to take a 13-10 lead. Lander would hold on to the lead, and a kill by Katie Miller would give the Bearcats a 25-22 win to tie the match.
Trailing Augusta 9-8 in the third set, Lander would go on a 7-1 run to take a 15-10 lead. A block by Katie Miller and Annie Holesinger would set up match point for the Bearcats, and then a service error by Augusta would give Lander the set and a 2-1 lead.
The Jaguars would tie the match at two with a 25-19 win in the fourth set and clinched the victory with a 15-10 win in the fifth set.
Katie Miller recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 16 digs to lead the Bearcats. Lauren Dow also had a double-double with 42 assists and 19 digs. Patricia Pantoja also had 19 digs, and Annie Holesinger and Blondie Penaflor had ten kills. Holesinger also finished with a game-high seven blocks.
