AIKEN, S.C. - After a back-and-forth contest between the Lander men's soccer team and the USC Aiken Pacers,
Jed Smith smashed a contested ball into the goal in the 77th minute to lift Lander to a 1-0 victory on the road.
The Bearcats move to 3-2-2 overall and 2-0-0 in the PBC while the Pacers drop to 1-3-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the PBC.
Lander took 10 shots with five on target compared to the Pacer's six shots and one on goal.
Neither team was able to get on the scoreboard in the first frame while the Bearcats were able to put two shots on goal.
After both sides had chances in the second half,
Rob Dymond attempted a header that was initially blocked but put away for the game's only goal by
Jed Smith in the 77th minute of play.
Keanu Ridgill played all 90 minutes in goal for the Bearcats, earning his first career shutout as a Bearcats.
Lander returns to
Van Taylor Stadium on Saturday to face conference foe Young Harris on Saturday, September 17 for a 1 pm contest.
