GREENWOOD – The Lander baseball team took the first game of the series against USC Aiken 3-0 behind a complete-game shutout from Nick Foray at Dolny Stadium on Friday.
Lander moves to 21-26 overall and 10-14 in the PBC while USC Aiken drops to 19-26 overall and 11-14 in the PBC.
Three Bearcats recorded multi-hit nights, as Landon Dupert, Bradley Davis and Matthew Burgess all had two hits each. Mason Streater recorded his 100th hit as a Bearcat against the Pacers as well. Walker McDowell, who helped convert four double plays, was tied with Burgess and Dupert for the lead in RBI with one each.
Foray went the distance against the Pacers to pick up his third win of the season. He allowed just four hits while striking out five which included a strikeout to end the game. Lander has two complete games this season, with Bennett Nance throwing the other earlier this season.
Lander started the game with a missile from Dupert to right field to clear the fence to put the Bearcats up 1-0.
The Bearcats would score two runs in the fourth starting with an RBI single from Burgess to left field that scored Davis. McDowell would single through the left side later in the inning to score Caleb Singleton and give Lander a 3-0 edge.
Lander and USC Aiken continue the series with a meeting on Saturday for a 3pm start.
