YOUNG HARRIS, GA. – The Lander battled Young Harris in a close contest once again as the second game of the series going to the Mountain Lions to the tune of a 5-3 ballgame.
Lander drops to 20-24 overall and 9-13 in the PBC while Young Harris moves to 31-14 and 15-8 in the PBC.
Lander saw Walker McDowell, Tyler Prell and Matthew Burgess record two hits each while Vincent DeRubeis led the way with two RBI against Young Harris.
Lander was once again first to score, as Mason Streater was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring home McDowell.
After a scoreless second and third, Lander would wake the offense up in the top of the fourth on a two-RBI single from DeRubeis to score Burgess and Gary Garrett to give the Bearcats a 3-0 edge.
The Mountain Lions would respond with a run in the bottom of the inning with a solo shot to center field to bring the score to 3-1. It wouldn't be until the sixth inning that another run would score. Young Harris took advantage of a throwing error to plate its second run. The seventh inning would see three more runs score for Young Harris. All three runs came around from hit batters.
Kurt Rogers got the start for the Bearcats and went 5.2 innings against the Mountain Lions. Rogers allowed two runs, one earned, one four hits while striking out two. Michael Nastro was awarded the loss after allowing three runs on two hits. Garrett Major also made a relief appearance where he pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless baseball.
The Bearcats and Mountain Lions conclude the series on Sunday with a 1 pm start.
