Late scoring surge for men's lacrosse not enough to defeat No. 4 Limestone on the road

GAFFNEY, S.C. – Looking to add to its recent win against Embry-Riddle, the Lander men's lacrosse battled No. 4 Limestone on the road, with the Saints coming away with a 15-9 victory.

Lander drops to 6-4 overall while Limestone moves to 7-1 overall.

Krew Conroy, Adam Mather and Chance Hainey all led the Bearcats with two goals each while three Bearcats had one goal each. Mather led the way in assists with two and points with four. Noah Longest picked up four ground balls while Alex Ellis led the way in caused turnovers with three.

The Bearcats scored at least one goal in each period. With seven of the Bearcats' nine goals coming in the second half.

Conroy fired home the Bearcats' first goal of the game with 1:14 left in the first to make it a 3-1 game in favor of Limestone.

Caedmon Farell would score his first goal of the season with 14:20 left in the second to bring Lander within two goals with Limestone leading 4-2.

Lander would find two goal scorers in the third period, as both Carter Wilcox and Mather scored a goal for the Bearcats.

Mather would find add another tally to the scoreboard in the fourth period with 8:49 remaining in the contest. Nolan Oakey joined the scoring fun with a goal at the 5:53 mark in the fourth. Conroy scored his second goal of the game with 3:48 left to bring Lander within eight, with Limestone leading 15-7. Hainey would score back-to-back goals for Lander within 40 seconds of each other for the Bearcat's eighth and ninth goals of the night.

Liam Mackay got the start and made 10 saves in 30 minutes of action while allowing nine goals. Mackay was credited with the loss and moves to 6-3 on the season. Nicholas Paige played the second half of the contest against Limestone where he made seven saves and allowed six goals.

Lander returns home to face Lees-McRae on March 26 for a 2 pm start.
