Men's lacrosse falls to Barton 15-10 on Saturday

GREENWOOD – The Lander men's lacrosse team lost its third straight game, as the Bearcats fell 15-10 to Barton College on Saturday afternoon.

Lander drops to 5-3 overall while Barton moves to 5-3 overall.

Carter Wilcox led the Bearcats in scoring with four goals. Two Bearcats were tied for second with two goals each. Drew Wilson collected five ground balls while Blake Moore went 10-of-15 in faceoffs and James Linn led the Bearcats in caused turnovers with two.

The Bearcats and Bulldogs battled through a tough first period, with Barton leading 4-3. Wilcox scored the game's first goal just five seconds into the first quarter. Barton would score three straight goals to go up 3-1 before Lander would respond with goals from Wilcox and Drew Wilson to tie the game at 3-3 with 6:44 remaining. The Bulldogs would retake the lead with a goal with 6:03 left in the quarter.

Barton would continue scoring, as it scored the first three goals to advance its lead to 7-3 with 7:37 remaining. Lander would score a pair of goals 24 seconds apart as Quinn Ingalls and Noah Longest fired home goals to make it a 7-5 game as the Bulldogs would hold onto their lead going into the half.

The Bulldogs would outscore the Bearcats 4-1 in the third quarter, as Lander wasn't able to score until Ingalls scored his second of the game with just three seconds left in the quarter.

Barton and Lander began the fourth by trading goals to see the Bulldogs lead 12-7 with 12:44 remaining. The Bearcats would continue to rally, with the next three goals scored by the Blue and Gold. Longest, Adam Mather and Wilcox all scored to put Lander behind 13-10 with 2:36 remaining. The Bulldogs would score twice more in the final two minutes to pull away with a 15-10 victory.

Liam Mackay got the start and allowed seven goals in 30 minutes of action. Mackay made 10 saves and is now 5-2 on the season. Nicholas Paige played the second half of the contest and made 10 saves as well while allowing eight goals.

Lander hosts Belmont Abbey next, with the Crusaders coming to Van Taylor Stadium on March 16 for a 3:30 pm start.
