AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Lander men's basketball team fell to no. 18 Augusta on the road Wednesday evening, losing 79-48 to the Jaguars.
Lander falls to 9-13 overall and 4-9 in the PBC while Augusta moves to 20-3 overall and 10-3 in the PBC.
Nigel Colvin led the Bearcats in scoring with 11 points on the night. He also hauled in four rebounds.
Augusta took a 36-24 first-half lead on the back of a 44 percent first-half and 12 points from Tyshaun Crawford.
The Jaguars jumped out to a 6-2 edge with 18:28 left before Colvin and Jared Sherfield hit a jumper and 3-pointer to put Lander in front 7-6 with 16:30 remaining in the first half.
The two teams would trade baskets, with the Bearcats jumping back in front on a Colvin 3-pointer to go up 10-9 with 14:21 before the Jaguars would go on a 10-2 run to push ahead 19-12 with 11:19 remaining.
Lander would get within five of Augusta after Tommy Moore connected on a layup to make it 19-14 Augusta, but the Jaguars would stay on the hunt, taking a 36-24 lead into the half.
The Bearcats wouldn't fair much better in the second half, as the Blue and Gold were outscored 43-24 in the second frame.
Lander returns home this Saturday to host North Georgia at Horne Arena at 3:30 pm.
