YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - Eighth-ranked Lander took down Young Harris 75-50 Wednesday night in the Bearcat's final road game of the regular season.
Makaila Cange put Lander on the board with a three-pointer a minute into the game. Leading 3-2, Sarah Crews found Miriam Recartte for a layup to make it a 5-2 game. Free throws from Cange and Crews at the end of the period gave the Bearcats a 14-8 lead after 10 minutes.
Jakiyah Parker drained a three-point basket on an assist from Crews 45 seconds into the second quarter to give Lander their biggest lead of the game at nine points. Young Harris battled their way back and cut the lead to five at 19-14. Vashae Rideout would put the Bearcats up by 10 with a layup and three-point basket on back-to-back possessions. Aniaya Jester sank two free throws at the end of the period to make it a 37-22 game at the half.
Lander started the second half on a 10-2 run to take a commanding 47-24 lead with 6:30 remaining in the third quarter. A layup by Carley Culberson with a minute and forty-one seconds left would give Lander their largest lead of the game at 54-30. The Bearcats outscored Young Harris 20-15 in the fourth quarter to take the victory.
Vashae Rideout scored a career-high 17 points on 8-13 shooting to lead the Bearcats. Miriam Recarte added 15 points, while Makaila Cange 14 points and pulled down 13 rebounds for her 15th double-double of the season. Amiaya Melvins had a team-high five assists along with eight points.
