MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Tenth-ranked Lander held Georgia College to just 17 points total in the second and third quarters, defeating the Bobcats 67-48 Wednesday night.
Aniaya Jester drained a three-point basket on the Bearcat's first possession, and Jakiyah Parker hit a jumper on their next possession to make it a 5-0 game. Georgia College hit a layup with 3:21 remaining to cut the Lander lead to 14-11. Lander finished the quarter on a 10-run to take a 24-11 lead into the second quarter.
Neither team could find the basket in the first three minutes of the period, but a Sarah Crews three-point basket extended the Lander lead to 16. The Bearcat defense continued to smother Georgia College, holding them to 18.8% shooting for the period and leading 36-20 at the break.
Crews started the third period off with a three-pointer and a layup to extend the lead to 21. Lander would lead by as many as 28 points, taking a 54-28 lead into the fourth, and cruised to victory.
The Bearcats had five players score in double figures, led by Jester and Makaila Cange, who had 14 points each. Crews added 12 points and five assists, while Vashae Rideout and Parker scored 10 points.
