Men's basketball heads to the Peach State to battle Georgia College on Wednesday

GREENWOOD – After battling to a 63-56 comeback win against North Georgia at Horne Arena on February 12, the Lander men's basketball team will travel to battle Georgia College on Wednesday, February 16.

STORYLINES

  • The Bearcats broke a five-game losing streak after taking down North Georgia 63-56 at Horne Arena last Saturday.
  • After trailing by just one point at the half, Lander outscored the Nighthawks 32-24 in the second half.
  • Nigel Colvin led the Bearcats with 15 points on a 6-of-9 shooting night. He's led the Bearcats in scoring six times this season.
  • DaJuan Moorer, Deandre Robinson and Jared Sherfield joined Colvin in double-figure scoring.
  • The Bearcats are now 8-4 at Horne Arena after the win. They however are just 2-8 on the road.
  • Lander picked up just its second win of the season when trailing at the half. The Bearcats came into last Saturday's contest 1-8 when trailing at the half.
  • Lander now sits in seventh place in the PBC at 5-9. North Georgia is currently sixth in the PBC with a conference record of 6-8.
  • Through the ups and downs, the Bearcats still hold one of the top-five defenses in the PBC. Lander is fifth in the PBC in points allowed per game with 69.3. The Bearcats are also in the top-five in the PBC for opponent FG percentage, with opponents just shooting 0.428 against Lander.
  • Colvin and Robinson are among the top-25 scorers in the PBC. Colvin is currently 21st with a team-high 11.4 while Robinson is 25th with 10.6 points per game.
  • Robinson is also currently third in the PBC for 3-point FG percentage. He's shooting .387 from beyond the arc. 
  • Robinson and Colvin are also in the top-10 for 3-pointers made per game. Robinson is third in the PBC with 2.7 while Colvin is averaging 2.0 made 3's per game.
  • Sherfield is in the top-15 for rebounders in the PBC. He's currently 15th in the conference with a team-high 6.0 rebounds per game. He is also tied for fourth in the PBC for assists per game with 2.7.
  • Lander is 0-1 against Georgia College this season. At Horne Arena on January 26, the Bearcats fell 69-46 to the Bobcats.
  • Robinson led Lander with 12 points on the night. The Bearcats were also held to a 16-of-57 (28.1%) shooting night from the field.
  • The Bobcats enter Wednesday's contest 18-5 overall and 10-4 in the PBC. Georgia College is third in the PBC so far this season.
  • The Bobcats are winners of their previous two games, which includes a 62-49 win at USC Aiken who is right behind the Bobcats in the conference standings.
  • Georgia College recently defeated a pesky Georgia Southwestern squad 52-50 on February 12.
  • Christian Koneman led the Bobcats in scoring with 13 on a 4-of-6 shooting day from the field and 3-of-4 from 3-point range.
  • Two Bobcats average double figures in scoring this season. Jordan Thomas leads the squad with 16.4 points per game while Wesley Simpson is second with 13.5 per game.
  • Simpson is also the team leader in rebounds with 6.3 per game and assists with 3.7 per game. Thomas leads the team in steals per game with 1.6.
  • Thomas' 16.4 points are good for the fourth-best in the PBC in points per game.
  • Georgia College is second in the PBC for points allowed, with just 66.3 points allowed per game. Augusta leads the conference with 63.8 points allowed per game.
  • Lander returns home to battle Georgia Southwestern on Saturday, February 19 for a 3:30 pm start.
