CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Lander baseball team rattled off 11 hits against Queens to take an 8-4 win on the road Sunday afternoon.
Lander improves to 2-4 overall while Queens drops to 4-3.
The Bearcats saw three players multiple RBI on the day, as
Vincent DeRubeis,
Ethan Wilder and
Matthew Burgess all has two RBI each.
After both sides were held scoreless in the first, Lander got on the scoreboard in the second. Burgess sent a single to center field on a 3-2 count to score
Mason Streater while
Gary Garrett hit into a fielder's choice to score Wilder to give Lander an early 2-0 lead.
Lander would plate two more in the fourth as well. A sac fly from Wilder scored
Bradley Davis while another single, this time up the middle, from Burgess would score Streater once again to put the Bearcats up 4-0.
Queens would get their offense going in the bottom of the fourth, as three runs came around on five hits to make it a one run game.
Lander would see two runs come around in the fifth and sixth inning.
In the fifth, Davis brought home
Chandler Moeller on a single to center field while a single from Wilder to right center would be enough to score Davis from third. A sac fly from DeRubeis in the sixth would be good enough to score Moeller and Garrett to push the Bearcats' lead to 8-3.
Queens would tack on one run in the bottom of the ninth on a single to left center field for the final run of the game.
Bennett Nance got the start and went four innings against the Royals. He struck out two while allowing three earned runs.
Evan Mauldin would deal for the remainder of the game and pick up the win. He allowed just one unearned run on three hits while striking out four.
The Bearcats will prepare for a series with Newberry, with games on February 18 and 20 set to be played at Dolny Stadium and a game on the 19th set to be played in Newberry.
