Indianapolis, Ind.- The No. 4 Lander wrestling team finished the Midwest Classic with four top-four place finishes with Zeth Brower taking first place at 141.
James Joplin and Logan Hall finished third at 125 and 184 while Elijah Lusk finished fourth at 133.
The Bearcats finished third out of 43 teams that competed at the 2022 Midwest Classic after earning 92 points. Central Oklahoma finished first with 178.5 points and Pitt.-Johnstown finished second with 95 points.
James Joplin (125) 6-1
Joplin wasted no time getting things started on the second day as he defeated Caden Howard. of Drury 10-4. Joplin scored two takedowns in the first period while getting an escape in the second along with a takedown and a point from riding time in the third.
Joplin kept the pace going as he won by pin against Dawson Collins of Colorado Mesa in the third period.
In the consolation semifinals, Joplin would record another pin, this time against Brandon Mendoza of Tiffin.
Joplin would end his day with a third-place finish after he defeated Shane Corrigan of Wisconsin-Parkside 6-2. He would score two takedowns in the first period while getting a reversal in the third.
Elijah Lusk (133) 5-2
Lusk fell for the first time at the Midwest Classic as he was defeated in the semifinals by Reece Barnhardt of the University of Mary 16-4.
Lusk rebounded in the consolation semifinals with a 6-2 win by decision over Collin Metzgar of Colorado Mesa. Lusk recorded takedowns in the first and second period while getting an escape and a point from riding time in the third period.
He would finish in fourth place after falling 9-5 to Eric Bartos of Mercyhurst. Bartos was ranked No. 7 in the latest NWCA Div. II rankings.
Zeth Brower (141) 5-0
Battling in the semifinals against No. 6 Christian Small of Lake Erie, Brower would take the win with a first-period pin. Brower was leading 6-2 before landing the pin.
The Bearcats came away with a first-place trophy after Brower defeated Peter Kuster of Drury 9-2. Brower was particularly active in the third period as he recorded two escapes, a takedown and got a point from riding time. He also got a four-point near fall in the second period.
Jack Bond (174) 3-2
Bond concluded action at the Midwest Classic with a loss by pin to Cade Lindsey of Fort Hays State to go 3-2 in Indianapolis.
Logan Hall (184) 5-1
Hall would fall in a close 5-3 match against Anthony Des Vigne of Central Oklahoma in the championship semifinals for his first match of the day.
In the consolation semifinals, Hall would take a 5-2 win by decision over Cole Houser of Glenville State. Hall landed takedowns in the second and third periods while getting an escape in the third as well.
In the third-place match, Hall would take the victory from a medical forfeit from his opponent.
Anthony Yacovetti (197) 4-2
Yacovetti fell to Luke McGonigal 8-2 to end his time at the Midwest Classic with a 4-2 record.
