Jason Burke and the Lander baseball team is pleased to announce the 2023 baseball schedule.
The Bearcats get the season underway on February 2 with a short drive to Due West, S.C., to face Erskine College. The Flying Fleet then makes the trip to Dolny Stadium for two games on February 3 and February 4.
Lander then welcomes Lincoln Memorial to Greenwood for a three-game series from February 10 through February 12. The Bearcats swept the Railspliters in a three-game series last season since not playing LMU since 2009.
Bennett Nance threw a complete game to help Lander win 2-0 in the final game of the series while striking out six.
The home games keep coming for the Blue and Gold as Lander welcomes Anderson for a single game on February 14. Lander defeated Anderson twice last season, winning 8-6 at home and 11-9 on the road.
Lander then welcomes USC Beaufort to Dolny Stadium for the first time in program history. USCB is in its first season as a Div. II school after moving up from the NAIA ranks. The Bearcats and Sand Sharks will battle in Greenwood from February 17 through February 19.
The Bearcats welcome regional powerhouse Wingate for its next home game on February 21. Lander split the two-game series with the Bulldogs last season which featured a 10-2 victory at home over a No. 1 Bulldogs squad.
Ian Jenkins had six RBI along with a grand slam in the home victory. Lander rounds out the long stretch of home games with a conference series against Columbus State from February 24 through February 26. Going up against a nationally ranked Cougars squad last season, Lander went 0-4 but didn't lose by more than three runs.
The Blue and Gold take to the road for the first time since the beginning of the season to face Francis Marion on February 28. Lander went 1-1 against its former PBC foe. The Bearcats won 7-4 at home while falling 8-5 in a 12-inning affair in Marion, S.C., last season. Lander then plays its first conference road series when it travels to Georgia Southwestern from March 3 through March 5. Lander went 1-2 against GSW last season at home last season.
The Bearcats return home for four non-conference games. Lander first hosts Belmont Abbey on March 7. Lander went 0-2 against the Crusaders last season. After Belmont Abbey, Lander welcomes Emmanuel College for three games starting March 10. Lander last played Emmanuel in the 2020 season, winning both games at Dolny Stadium.
Lander then starts a five-game road swing beginning with a trip to North Greenville on March 14. The Bearcats then make the trip to North Georgia for a conference series beginning on March 17 before making the return trip to Wingate on March 21.
Lander returns to Dolny Stadium for a three-game series with Claflin on March 24. The Bearcats swept the Panthers last season on the road with all three games only needing seven innings each. North Greenville makes the return trip to face lander at home on March 24 before the Bearcats return to conference action with a trip to Augusta beginning on March 31. The Bearcats have won their last four games against the Jaguars with a series sweep against Augusta last season at home.
Lander returns home to battle in-state foe Limestone on April 4 before hosting Georgia College and State University beginning on April 7. Lander has lost its past four contests with the Bobcats. Lander hits the road once more as it travels to Limestone on April 11 and to St. Augustine, Fla., to face Flagler College beginning on April 14. Lander went 1-2 against Flagler last season, as the Bearcats won the first game of the series before losing the next two.
Francis Marion kicks off the final home stretch of the regular season, as the Patriots come to Dolny Stadium on April 18. Young Harris represents the final regular season home series of the year beginning April 21.
Lander finishes the regular season on the road. It firsts starts with a short trip to Anderson on April 25 before finishing the regular season with a three-game series with the USC Aiken Pacers starting on April 28. Lander has gone 4-2 over the past two seasons against USC Aiken.
The PBC Tournament begins May 5 through May 7 with the top eight teams qualifying.
