POWDER SPRINGS, Ga. - The No. 7 Lander wrestling team sent a squad down to the Life University open on Saturday as three Bearcats placed in the top-six.

Gage Bernall, Xander McWilliams and Nathan Buchovich all placed in their respective weight classes.

Bernall finished in fifth at 174.

He started his day with an 8-5 win by decision over Cameron Andrews of Campbell before going 4-0 to take another win by decision over Jacob Catagas of Montreat. Bernall kept the decision streak going with a 2-0 victory over Michael Gibson of Life University. Bernall would fall twice by decision, once in the semifinal round and the consolation round before taking fifth place after winning by medical forfeit.

McWilliams finished second in the freshman/sophomore 157-weight class.

After getting a bye in the first round, McWilliams took down Brandon Irigoyen-Camero of Life 10-0 before winning 6-5 over William Lowery. He would win by decision once again with a 3-0 victory over Coleman Tadich before advancing to the finals on a medical forfeit. McWilliams would fall to Andrew Corey of Reinhardt in the championship match 15-6.

Buckovich finished in second place in the freshman/sophomore 184-weight class.

After receiving a bye in the first round, Buckovich pined Chandler Diles of Brewton Parker before earning a victory in the quarterfinals by forfeit. Buckovich then took down another member of Brewton-Parker to advance to the semifinals as he defeated Charles Henkel 12-4. Buckovich would fall by decision 13-8 to Anthony Parks of the University of Rio Grande in the finals.

The Bearcats return to action on December 1 as they travel to Emmanuel College to battle the Lions in Franklin Springs, Ga.
