Salisbury, N.C. - The Lander Women's Basketball Team went into the half with the Catawba Indians tied at 30 but the hosts would pull away in the second half to come away with a 74-56 win.
Quadaija Langley led the Bearcats in scoring with 15 while
Vashae Rideout and
Anne Secrest we're both in double figures with 10 points each.
Catawba would jump out to a 9-2 lead in the first quarter but the Bearcats would battle back as Secrest would cut into the lead with a three-pointer and layup. Rideout would score five straight points to give Lander the lead at 12-11. A layup from
Tanyia Gordon and a buzzer beater from Secrest would give Lander a four point lead heading into the second quarter.
Early in the second quarter, the Indians would cut the lead to one several times but buckets from
Cory Santoro and
Quadaija Langley would keep the hosts at arms length. However, Catawba would tie the game up at 23-all and the two teams would exchange the lead and eventually went into the half tied at 30.
Tanyia Gordon would give the Bearcats a three-point lead out of the break with a three-pointer. However the Indians would make a run in the third quarter as they would open an 11 point lead. A Langley three-pointer would cut the lead back to single digits heading into the last quarter of action.
Catawba would go on a 12-4 run to open the fourth and then both teams would go cold for almost three minutes before a Catawba three pointer and a Secrest layup would round out the scoring on the afternoon.
The Bearcats will play again on Sunday, November 27th as they welcome Fayetteville State to Horne Arena for a 1:30 PM tip-off.
