MELBOURNE, FLA. - The Lander men's soccer team saw its season end in penalty kicks at Florida Tech Monday afternoon.
Lander concludes the season with an overall record of 12-3-6 while Florida Tech moves to 10-0-7.
Lander is now 1-1-1 all-time against Florida Tech.
The Bearcats were the first to score in the NCAA second-round contest. In the 33rd minute of play,
Jed Smith was able to get a ball and fire off a shot that was saved but the rebound was collected by
Max McNulty and put away for the opening tally.
Neither side was able to score for the remainder of the first half.Â
It would remain a 1-0 Bearcats game until the Panthers fired a cross into the box that was headed in to tie the contest in the 73rd minute.
Lander would play a man-down for the remaining 17 minutes of regulation along with two 10-minute overtime periods.
The Bearcats saw
Lorenzo Ferrari make three of his season-high eight saves on the day in overtime.
Ferrari ends the season with a 9-1-4 record that features seven shutouts.
Overall, Lander put 5-of-13 shots on goal while Florida Tech put 9-of-13 shots on goal.
Heading to penalty kicks, Lander would see successful strikes from McNulty and
Rob Dymond while
Kevin Rubaszewski and
Carson Dinger's attempts were saved by Florida Tech's keeper.
The Bearcats will look forward to their spring schedule before getting back on the pitch to begin the 2023 season.
