Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lenoir-Rhyne Downs Lander, 71-52

Aiken, S.C - The Lander Women's Basketball Team would find themselves with a four point lead early on but the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears would take the lead moments later and would pull away for a 71-52 win on Sunday afternoon.

Tanyia Gordon would come up one rebound short of a double-double as she would finish with 14 points and nine rebounds.

Gordon would give the Bearcats a two point lead at 6-4 but the Bears would tie it up on the next possession. After the lead would change hands a couple of times, a layup by Kayla Sanders and a three pointer from Anne Secrest would give Lander a 15-11 lead with under four minutes to go in the quarter. However, Lenoir-Rhyne would score the next 11 points to close out the quarter to give them a 22-15 lead after the first ten minutes of action.

The Bears would make it a 13-0 run before Tanyia Gordon stopped the bleeding with a jumper. After Lenoir-Rhyne responded on the next possession, Lander would respond with a 10-0 run as Cory Santoro would hit back to back threes and Secrest and Gordon would hit jumpers to give Lander a one point lead. However, the Bears would respond with a 13-2 run of their own to give them a ten point lead at the halftime break.

After shooting 46.2% from the field in the first half, the Bearcats would go cold in the second half as they would only shoot 28% from the field. The Bearcats would get the lead down to six on a couple of occasions off free throws from Kayla Sanders and Quadaija Langley but the Bears would hold an 11 point lead heading into the last quarter of action.

The Bears would open the fourth quarter on an 11-0 run that spanned over half of the quarter to give them a 22 point lead and put the game out of reach. Lander wouldn't get their first bucket until just under the four minute mark of the quarter as Tanyia Gordon would score to stop the Lenoir-Rhyne run. From there the teams would exchange scores the rest of the way to end with the 71-52 scoreline.

The Bearcats will open their home slate on Wednesday as they welcome the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters to Horne Arena. That game is scheduled to tip at 5:30 PM.
