GREENWOOD - Lander got a goal from Romie Llewellyn in the 85th minute to break a 1-1 tie and held on for a 2-1 win over Claton State Wednesday evening.
Despite outshooting the Lakers 6-0 in the first half, Lander could not find the back of the net. The game remained scoreless until the 67th minute when the Bearcats were the recipient of an own goal by Clayton State to take a 1-0 lead.
With eight minutes left in the game, the Lakers tied the game with a goal by Felicia Wallin. It looked like the game would end in a draw, but Llewelly took a pass from Annika Seifart to give the Bearcats the lead and the win. Taylor Frew made two save in goal to pick up her third win of the season.
