#3 Lander pulls away from upset-minded Pacers

AIKEN, S.C. - Leading by just four points at the half, the third-ranked Bearcats outscored the Pacers 44-29 in the second half to take an 82-63 win Wednesday evening.

USC Aiken started on an 11-3 run to take the early lead, but the Bearcats would slowly chip away at the lead, and back-to-back layups by Sarah Crews and Zamiya Passmore gave Lander a 15-14 lead with 3:26 remaining in the first period. The two teams continued to trade lead, and after the first 10 minutes, the score was tied at 20.

With the Bearcats trailing 27-24 midway through the second quarter, Jakiyah Parker drained a three-pointer to tie the game up. Lander continued to build their lead, and Makaila Cangé completed a three-point play to cap a 9-0 run and give the Bearcats a 33-27 lead that they would hold onto heading into intermission.

Leading 42-38 with 7:21 remaining in the third quarter, the Bearcats went on a 14-3 run over the next three minutes to make it a 15-point game. Leading 62-52 at the start of the fourth quarter, Lander would use a 15-5 run to take a 20 point lead and held on for the victory.

Passmore led all players with a season-high 31 points with seven steals and five assists. Cangé recorded her second-straight double-double scoring 17 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Amiaya Melvins added 12 points, and Parker scored 10 points. Miriam Recarte grabbed nine rebounds and had two blocks.
