Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's basketball falls at home to Georgia College

GREENWOOD, S.C. - Deandre Robinson hit four 3-pointers, but the Lander Bearcats were cold shooting otherwise and had their seven-game home-court winning streak end with a 69-46 Peach Belt Conference loss to Georgia College Wednesday night at Horne Arena.
Lander fell to 9-9 overall and 4-5 in the Peach Belt. The Bobcats improved to 15-3, 7-2.
The Bearcats fell to 7-2 at home this season.
Lander has had four double-figure scorers in 10 games this season but only one Wednesday as Robinson tallied 12. He hit four-of-eight from behind the arc.
DaJuan Moorer added eight points while leading the Bearcats with seven rebounds.
Jared Sherfield scored seven points for Lander while leading the team with five steals and four assists.
The Bearcats could not overcome poor shooting as they made only 16-for-57 shots from the floor (28 percent), including 8-for-30 from 3-point range (26 percent). Lander was at its coldest in the first half but only trailed by five at halftime. However, Georgia College heated up in the second half and pulled away. The visitors were 17-for-28 after halftime (61 percent) including 8-for-17 from behind the line (47 percent).
Jordan Thomas, Luke Chism and Chris Parks paced the Bobcats with 12 points apiece while Wesley Simpson and Christian Koneman each scored 10.
Georgia College had a 40-28 rebounding advantage in the game.
Lander opened the game 2-for-11 from the floor with one of the baskets being on Sherfield's steal and fast-break dunk. The Bearcats took their first lead at 9-7 on Nigel Colvin's 3-pointer at the 14-minute mark and Dominic Stanford followed with a transition dunk, making it 11-7.
The shooting slump grew to 4-for-22 until Robinson made a 3-pointer from the left side, breaking a tie and giving Lander a 16-13 lead with 7:39 to go. Georgia College went on a 10-2 run, taking a 23-18 advantage with 1:47 left.
Stanford's 3-pointer pulled the Bearcats within 23-21, but Brandon Thomas's trey just inside the one-minute mark gave the Bobcats a 26-21 lead at the break.
The Blue and Gold wound up 7-for-33 in the first half (21 percent) including 3-of-17 from behind the arc (18 percent) but did not fall too far behind because of its defense. The visitors made 10-of-25 shots (40 percent) in the first half including only 4-of-16 from long range (25 percent). The teams were a combined 7-for-33 from behind the arc in the opening half.
George College opened the second half hot, using a 22-10 run over the first seven minutes to build a 48-31 lead. The Bobcats made 6-for-8 from behind the arc during the run, including two by Simpson and one apiece by Brandon Thomas, Jordan Thomas, Chapin Rierson and Koneman.
Robinson's 3-pointer and Tommy Moore's layup cut Lander's deficit to 48-36 with 11:48 left.
But Parks hit a 3-pointer as the shot clock was expiring, giving Georgia College a 59-41 advantage with 6:30 to go.
Robinson's fourth 3-pointer of the game and Sherfield's layup off a nice pass from Moorer pulled the Bearcats within 59-46 with 4:40 left.
But the Bobcats were content to run the shot clock down on every possession and ended the game on a 10-0 run.
