GREENWOOD – The Lander women's soccer team earned its first win of the season as it defeated West Georgia 1-0 at Van Taylor Stadium.
In their home opener, the Bearcats also earned their first-ever win against UWG.
The Bearcats move to 1-0-1 overall while West Georgia drops to 0-1-0.
Lander was able to get its lone goal early in the contest, as Maren White fired home her second goal of the season off a pass from Gracie Beeson to put the Bearcats in control.
Outside of its only goal, Lander continued to pressure West Georgia, putting 6-of-13 shots on target. UWG had seven shots total with four going on net.
Sarah Owen moves to 1-0-1 after making four saves in the 1-0 shutout.
The Bearcats play once again at home as they host Southern Wesleyan on Wednesday.
