MORROW, Ga. - The Lander Bearcats' offense exploded for three goals and held on for a 3-2 win over Clayton State Wednesday evening in Peach Belt Conference action.
The Bearcats opened the scoring in the fifth minute when Katie Arthur scored on an assist by Kelcie Fisher. Lander added to their lead ten minutes later on a goal by Emma Sexton that Mia Piazza and Kara Yandle assisted.
A goal by the Lakers in the 25th minute would cut the Lander lead to one, but Mary Moosbrugger answered with a goal five minutes later to make it a two-goal lead that the Bearcats held onto into the half. The Bearcats continued to hold a 3-1 lead until Clayton State scored with just under eight minutes to go in the game, but Lander would hold the Lakers scoreless the rest of the way out to secure their second conference win of the season.
