GREENWOOD, S.C. - Emma Sexton scored two first-half goals to help Lander upset second-ranked Flagler 2-1 Saturday afternoon.
Neither team could get any offense going for the first 20 minutes of the game, with each team getting just one shot. However, in the 21st minute, the Saints would get on the board when the ball deflected a Lander player into the goal.
Eleven minutes later, Lander's Emma Sexton would find the back of the net off a corner kick by Kaitlyn Thompson to tie the game. With just over five minutes left in the half, Sexton took advantage of a misplay by the Flagler keeper and scored her second goal of the game to give the Bearcats the lead heading into intermission.
The Lander defense played lights out in the second half, allowing just two shots on goal to secure the upset victory.
Sarah Owen made two saves in goal for the Bearcats.
