GREENWOOD, S.C. - Lander broke out the brooms as they swept Young Harris 3-0 Tuesday night in women's volleyball action.
The two teams battled back and forth to start the first set. The score was tied at 5-5 when the Bearcats went on a 5-0 run to force the Mountain Lions to call a timeout. Lander used that momentum to pull away and take a 25-11 win.
The Bearcats continued that momentum in the second set, scoring the first five points. Madilyn Reed had two service aces and Christina Aguayo and Daria De Carvalho Peixe each had a kill. Young Harris battled back to tie the game up at six, but a kill by Maya Walker stopped the Mountain Lion's momentum and gave the serve back to Lander. The Bearcats gradually pulled away from Young Harris to take the second set 25-18.
Lander again raced out to the lead in the third set with kills from Aguayo and Reed and another service ace from Reed. A kill by Young Harris would stop the Bearcats and make it 4-1. Lander again ran off five points to make it 9-1 and force a Mountain Lion timeout. Coming out of the timeout, Lander added three more points before Young Harris could break the serve. The Bearcats continued to pour on the offense and take the final set 25-7.
