GREENWOOD – For the first time this season, the Lander women's soccer team tasted defeat after losing 2-1 to the Auburn-Montgomery Warhawks.
Lander drops to 2-1-1 while Auburn-Montgomery moves to 2-1-0 overall.
The Warhawks were the first to score after a corner kick was headed by Maggie Flanagan to give UAM a 1-0 edge in the 32nd minute.
Lander took 13 of their 20 shots in the first half. The Warhawks took a combined four in the first frame.
The Bearcats tied the contest in the 60th minute of play from a strike from Romie Llewellyn.
In the 84th minute of play, a scrum ensued in front of the Bearcat net, allowing Mayson Jaindl of UAM to punch home the winning goal for the Warhawks.
Sarah Owen made three saves in the loss and is now 2-1-1 this season in net for Lander.
Lander continues its non-conference schedule with a road trip to Coker on Wednesday.
